Send, receive, pay, save, borrow and grow from one bank-led digital account. EMMA works across networks, supports different customer journeys, and connects to the broader interoperable ecosystem through e-Kash.
EMMA is not simply another way to access an existing bank account. It is designed as a mobile-first entry into Equity: customers can onboard digitally, transact across supported networks, connect through e-Kash and grow into a broader financial relationship.
EMMA brings the accessibility people associate with mobile money together with the depth of a bank account. The customer starts with everyday financial needs and can progressively access more services from the same relationship.
Usually gives a customer digital access to a banking relationship that already exists.
Onboarding, identity verification, account creation and activation can begin through the mobile journey.
Customers can begin the relationship through a guided mobile onboarding journey with the required identity, KYC and security checks.
EMMA is not tied to one mobile network. Customers can use supported networks without changing their financial relationship.
e-Kash interoperability extends EMMA to participating mobile-money providers, banks and supported external merchant codes, while on-us activity remains simple.
The same customer relationship can expand into savings, EMMA Overdraft, short-term loans, EquiFarm, Programs & Groups and more.
EMMA is designed as a connected financial ecosystem rather than a collection of disconnected products.
EMMA is designed to make everyday money movement simpler and more affordable, while giving you room to grow into a broader financial relationship with Equity.

For eligible customers, EMMA Overdraft provides short-term liquidity inside the same EMMA digital account, with visibility of the available limit, amount due and transaction history.
When an eligible customer does not have enough available balance for a supported transaction, EMMA Overdraft can provide additional value up to the approved limit, subject to the product rules and customer confirmation.
The customer accesses EMMA Overdraft within the same digital relationship rather than opening a separate channel experience.
The customer can check the available overdraft limit before relying on it.
EMMA provides an amount-due view so the customer can understand the current overdraft obligation.
Transaction history gives the customer visibility of overdraft activity and previous use.
From the EMMA services menu, choose EMMA Finance.
Activate the service if required, or open the existing overdraft menu.
Check the available limit or view the current amount due before taking the next action.
Use the overdraft for an eligible transaction and track activity through transaction history.
This illustrative flow shows how an eligible customer can be offered EMMA Overdraft when the available EMMA balance is not enough to complete an EMMA-to-EMMA transfer.
The amount, available balance, recipient and resulting cost below are illustrative. Actual eligibility, limit and pricing are calculated for the customer and disclosed before confirmation.
Interoperability is a core part of the proposition. EMMA can receive from and send to supported e-Kash participants, and can pay supported external merchant codes through e-Kash, while the customer continues to use one bank-issued digital account.
This is the distinct eKash identifier used to route an interoperable transfer specifically to the customer's EMMA digital account.
The same mobile number can be associated with a mobile-money wallet and an EMMA account. The complete EMMA eKash ID distinguishes EMMA as the intended destination.
Buy Goods supports both PWE merchant codes and supported external merchant codes. External merchant payments, such as a supported MTN MoMo merchant code, are routed through e-Kash.
Interoperability extends the reach of EMMA without forcing the customer into a separate account experience.
e-Kash supports interoperable transfers and extends Buy Goods to supported external merchant codes.
The EMMA eKash ID and beneficiary confirmation help make the intended destination explicit.
Once funds arrive, the customer can use them for the broader EMMA proposition, subject to the applicable product rules.

Open EMMA digitally if you are eligible, or use an assisted onboarding journey and complete your activation yourself.
Eligible customers can complete the full onboarding journey in the App. There is no separate activation journey after successful self-onboarding.
Identity and security checks run as part of the journey before your account is activated.
Choose language, enter your mobile number and review the required disclosures.
Verify your number, capture your ID and complete the required selfie and liveness checks.
Provide the required customer information while EMMA completes the relevant identity and security validation.
Create your EMMA PIN, complete enhanced security setup and enable biometrics where supported.
For an assisted journey, an authorized channel helps complete onboarding and verification. You then use your activation key to set up secure access.
Customers below 18 follow the separate Junior Wallet guardian-led journey. Additional documentation or assisted onboarding may apply depending on customer type.
EMMA combines transaction confirmations with practical security guidance so customers can monitor activity and respond quickly when something is wrong.
Important financial events are confirmed through both channels, giving an immediate external alert and an in-app record.
The USSD session shows the immediate result and important financial transactions are also confirmed by SMS.
Customers receive an SMS when Overdraft is used and after automatic recovery from incoming EMMA funds, including the relevant updated position.
A declined application is communicated clearly in-channel. SMS is used where the customer needs to take a follow-up action.
Never share your full EMMA PIN or OTP, including with someone claiming to be Bank staff.
Always confirm the beneficiary name and transaction amount before sending money.
Do not allow another person to register or operate EMMA using your identity or mobile number.
Report a lost phone, SIM change, compromised credentials or suspicious transaction immediately.
